Day 1 Comalapa
San Juan Camalapa is nestled among pine tress and cornfields just one hour away from Antigua. A market if you like to 'escape the usual' Chichicastenango. The town is famous for its 'naive' style artisans and home to the well known Andres Curruchiche who was the first Kaqchikel Maya oil painter .
This morning, your guide will take you to Comalapa for a guided tour. In the entrance a mural depicting the town's history welcomes visitors, as you walk along you will find a wonderful and authentic market to get an insight into real lives of local highlanders. After lunch, you will be transferred to Atitlan for overnight. Hotel Atitlan
Day 2 Atitlan Villages
Along the shores of Lake Atitlan you may find different towns, each of these villages is named after the twelve apostles. Santiago (St.James), is a village located on the south end, home to Maximon, a pagan saint who drinks moonshine and smoke cigars. San Juan la Laguna, famous for its naïf art galleries, town murals and natural dyes textiles.
Breakfast at the hotel. Guide will meet you at the lobby for your boat transfer to the most important villages around the lake. Enjoy lunch at a local venue. After the tour, boat will take you back to the hotel for overnight. Hotel Atitlan
Day 3 Morning at leisure - Afternoon flight to Peten
With three stunning volcanoes rising out of its emerald surface, Lake Atitlán is for sure the best way to be introduced to the indigenous culture in the highlands of Guatemala. This lake is characterized by its natural beauty and surrounded by gorgeous views and indigenous villages filled with culture.
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the morning at leisure, guide can take you to explore Panajachel. When you are ready, you will be transferred back to the city for your afternoon flight to Flores. Upon arrival to Mundo Maya Airport, your driver will take you to your hotel for overnight. Villa Maya
Day 4 Yaxhá Sunset
Yaxha is an archaeological site and ancient ceremonial center of Mayan civilization situated in the northeast of Peten. This site is a mixture of archeology, beautiful landscapes and ecological tourism. With more than 500 structures in the site, including 40 stelea, 13 altars and 9 pyramids this site is a must when visiting the area.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the afternoon, your guide will meet you at the lobby for your yaxhá sunset tour, enjoy a beautiful sunset on the top of a pyramid. After the tour, your guide will transfer you back to your hotel for overnight. Villa Maya
Day 5 Tikal & Flight to Guatemala
City and ceremonial center of the ancient Maya civilization. Tikal became an important ceremonial center with the construction of major pyramids and temples. Its best years were the Late Classic Period (600-900AD). Tikal National Park contains some of the most fascinating archaeological remains of the ancient Maya Civilization. Excavated by Pennsylvania University between 1956 and 1969, Tikal is the largest excavated site in the American continent. It is Guatemala´s most famous cultural and natural preserve.
After breakfast your tour guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and transfer you to Tikal National Park. Your guide will show you the layout of the temples, architecture, history, some theories of why they disappeared and if you are lucky a few monkeys, parrots, macaws and toucans will be on site. After the tour enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the middle of the jungle on site. After lunch, a private transfer will take you to Mundo Maya Airport for your local flight to the city. Upon arrival, driver will take you to the hotel of your choice. *overnight not included for this day.
